Our focus for 2018 is embodied in our brand promise – helping the world work better.

Every day, we partner with organizations to provide them with the products and services they need to succeed while striving to reduce our environmental footprint and promote sustainable initiatives. The 2018 Corporate Social Responsibility Report will explain how we accomplish just that.

With our new company mantra, It’s Pro Time, we have reinforced the message that we are Pros when it comes business.
And we are focused on being the best partner for businesses. As such, we have invested in delivering high touch solutions to customers across our lines of business of Office Essentials, Furniture, Technology, Print, Facility Supplies. And we continue to be a partner to businesses who are focused on their environmental footprint by providing ink and toner recycling and an electronic waste recycling program to name a few.

This year we have also successfully upgraded our ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 registrations. These internationally recognized Corporate ISO Registrations help us to not only meet – but exceed our customer expectations and minimize our impact on the environment.

We are focused on creating meaningful change that will have a positive impact for our customers, partners and the environment in 2018 and beyond.

“Thriving with Sustainability – it is core to running our business and a key enabler to achieving our goals.”

As we move forward in 2018 we continue to ensure our company objectives and targets incorporate a sustainability component into them, hence fostering a culture of sustainability is simply the way we do business.

At Staples Business AdvantageTM, we believe sustainability is a journey, not a destination. There are three focus areas for our sustainability journey that enable our results, ensure our customers reap the benefits and help us succeed.

Strategy – It is critical to create a sustainability plan that is tailored specifically for your business. One size does not fit all. By identifying and prioritizing the areas of your business that are most important, you can decide which ones you want to pursue to make the biggest impact. Sustainability initiatives must be aligned with the company’s overall goals and have well defined objectives and targets. What gets measured, gets managed and what gets managed gets improved upon. The goals you set must be ambitious, but achievable.

Employee Engagement –This is crucial to the success of your sustainability plan. Employees can either make or break your plan. Leaders can set the objectives but if we fail to get the buy-in from our employees then our sustainability efforts are destined to fail. Engaged employees not only implement your programs but they help “sustain” them.” Invest the time upfront to educate, engage and empower your employees on your sustainability initiatives so they understand what and why you are trying to implement them so they know how they can contribute. Be sure to empower them with the tools they need to be successful so they can deliver the results. These engaged employees will become self -motivated, loyal and often generate new sustainability ideas for the business, hence innovation becomes a driving force.

Continuous Improvement – By instilling a continuous improvement mindset, your sustainability plan will gain momentum and longevity. Raise the bar to always improve so you do not become complacent. Complacency leads to extinction. By embedding continuous improvement into your processes you will reap the benefits to enhance your business and maintain your competitive advantage.

Having these three focus areas top of mind helped us succeed in our sustainability journey. In 2017 our company was recognized as the winner of the “Corporate Social Responsibility Leadership Award of Excellence” by the Canadian Office Products Association (COPA). Previous years we had also won awards in the sustainability leadership space that sets us apart from the competition. CSR is not always easy and it has its unique challenges, however by embracing these opportunities and being innovative you will achieve success. Leverage employee engagement to drive sustainable business and you will be able to accelerate your company’s growth and performance.
